It all started when I lost the meeting schedule for the Staff Organization, and resulted in my missing a large number of meetings.
I never actually signed up to be on this committee but I did fill in for another lady about two years ago and at that time got put down as an alternate. Then when she left for another job I got moved into the contact slot.
About two weeks ago I received and email from another committee member asking for volunteers for one of the activity booths for the annual picnic.
I ignored it.
Then last week I got another one- they hadn’t gotten enough volunteers to man the booth for the entire picnic.
Guilt set in.
I hadn’t been fulfilling my obligation to attend the meetings and felt bad about not supporting those who had.
So I signed up.
I told Jason about it and he thought it was so wonderful that he just HAD to be there to “cheer me on”.
Thursday morning I woke up and thought to myself “it had better be warm today; if it’s not there is no way I will do this!”
It was warm and sunny.
Lucky me.
I packed up my stuff for the day and headed out.
At about noon I headed over to the booth- traipsing through underbrush and around dorms in an effort to get there on time.
(My office has been moved to the outer limits of campus)
For the past week I have been hoping that people would just have bad aim and that I wouldn’t have to do much, but as I walked up the slope I could hear a distinct “sploosh”! every few minutes.
Darn it!
That’s right I had signed up to participate in the Dunk Booth. Jason had come along to watch and laugh. Support me, my butt. In fact when he told his father where he was going that day, THEY wanted to come!
It was interesting to see how all the shop guys that I have worked with in the past four years perked up when they realized that I was next. It was also VERY interesting to see how much their aim improved once I was sitting in the booth. One of them was even kind enough keep track of how many times I was dunked.
18 times in 14 minutes.

Apparently I was a big hit and was providing mass amounts of entertainment as I got increasingly nervous and nearly fell off the seat three times just from jumping so bad when they missed.

I don't even know you, traveled here from a non-blood relative of a roommate...
But I still watched this 5 or 6 times and was inwardly merry.
Hehe. Thanks for sharing!
