I'm taking a creative writting class and this weeks assignment is to write an adaptation of the classic "Rip Van Winkle". It's supposed to be a modern tale of someone waking up today after being asleep for a minimum of 20 years.

20 years ago was 1988 which to be frank doesn't seem that long ago.
But seriously so many things really have changed. For example:

cells phones (I personally credit Star Trek for this - all the little nerdy kids desperatly wanted their very own "communicator")

The Pursian Gulf War
George Bush as President
the end of the Cold War
closly followed by the fall of The Soviet Union
I was ten years old at this time- see below
