Scottie died on Monday night.
He got hit by a car about 5 minutes after we got home from Boone. I had let him off his leash to walk the stiffness from his leggs while I checked the mail and one of the new college kids clipped him with his SUV while parking.
The kid was really sorry- he had seen Scottie about 20 feet away but then lost sight of him while he was backing up into the parking spot.
I was about fifty feet away when it happened. I knew I shouldn't have let him off his leash and even thought that it was too dark for someone to see him- but no one was in the parking lot and it was late.
He didn't hit him hard but it was enough to break his leg (I think) and send him into shock. He died half way to the vets office.

Terra, I am so sorry that Scottie didn't get to have the peaceful passing that you had planned for him. This ms like such a random and unfair thing at a time when your emotional resources are at an all time low. I wish I could be there to give you a great big hug and feed you deep dish pizza. I hope you are finding ways to express your sadness and anger, you don't have any extra room for emotional storage right now. I love you and we all feel awful for you.
Love,
Mom

I absolutely second your mom's sentiments. My only change is Sono instead of pizza. :)

yI'm sooo sorry Terra!!! I know how much Scottie meant to you - especially in light of all that has happened in the past few years! I'm glad you got to spend one last trip with him at least. I'm so sorry. I'll call you tonight!!!! I love you girl!
