Wedding update

Good news:
the caterer emailed me back.

Bad news:
We still don't have a menu because she keeps trying to talk me into a Mashed Potato bar, which would involve various kinds of mashed potatoes served in martini glasses.
Or another suggestion is to replace the mashed potato bar with a quesadilla station.

which correct me if I'm wrong, will ensure hearing the quote "go make yourself a dang quesadilla!" by the groomsmen and guests, all night long.

That is funny! When my wife an I were sealed and we had tons of guests we did a steak and potato dinner. We did grilled bacon wrapped fillets with baked potatos and corn. It was yummy and everyone got a real meal. It wasn't very expensive either.

Mashed Potato in a martini glass is comically pathetic, not to mention thuroughly unappetizing.

As a side note, I keep hearing reports that going all out for a wedding is actually a good investment becuase the expenses associated with the event are usually less than the value of the gifts the couple receives.

I can't imagine this is true.

i must agree wholeheartedly with mary ann. though i try to stay out of wedding plans as a rule (i was pretty silent even in planning my own wedding), but mashed potatoes in a martini glass is... pathetic is a great word. i was at a dinner party at a local country club where they tried to serve that to me. i politely asked for the potatoes to be put on my plate as opposed to the martini glass. the waitress adopted an everyone's-doing-it attitude and gave me grief for not wanting to experiment. i replied with "it just looks stupid." she put it on my plate.

I'm not sure that Napoleon Dynamite quotes can be considered bad when used in the proper context. My personal favorite is, "Your mom goes to college!"

I looked at your photography website. It seems very well organized, but I do have a few comments. I think that the website name should be highlighted more. When I first saw the name I was like, "did they run out of website domains?" Then I saw the bottome of the page. It's pretty clever, but I think it should be at the top as a subordinate headline. Also, I thought you should be a little more experimental with the text. Maybe it's because I'm taking typography right now, but a plain Times Roman font does not express the elegance of the photos you display. Perhaps a more scriptive font would be more appropriate for the headlines and then a the roman font for the copy text. I found the color scheme a little off putting. gold/orange and black always remind me of halloween and the accent colors were a little dark I thought. I realize these colors were pulled from the photo, but I don't think you should focus so much on matching the colors exactly as using tones from the photo. I also thought that perhaps you should use more than just that one photo on the home page. your pictures of flowers are very beautiful and diverse and I think your diversity as a whole could be showcased more on the home page. I myself have never designed a webpage as that is going to be covered in my later GD classes so I don't know how much of what I am saying is possible. I also think that the use of graphic elements such as squares, circles, line could help bring the eye around more and tell it where to focus. you can see that even in these blogger templates they use some geometric elements to offset different parts. I think that may help you. Do you guys have illustrator or imageready? you could use an animated border to rotate through your photos. like on josh's page. i believe he did that in imageready which generally comes with photoshop now.

i really liked your photos. the ones of the kids at the wedding were especially cute. i thought that the light/dark levels might need to be played with a little bit. the one of the little blond boy looks a little bit washed out. i have a the photoshop classroom in a book released by adobe and it is really helpful to fully appreciate the program's capabilities. you can get it on amazon for like $35 dollars or something. or i could lend you mine for a few weeks or so. here are some graphic design firm websites that i've been looking at for my club and their layouts and things might inspire you guys to go out on the limb more.
