Quandary

Last night while Jason and I were at his parents for Sunday dinner they asked if we were willing to house sit (feed and walk the various pets) this weekend while the rest of them went out to Utah for the annual Heilpern sky vacation.

Not a problem, I house/pet sit for them all the time...Problem....

Scottie.

They don't want me to bring him to their house because they don't want him inside. They have two cats one of which is VERY high strung (luckily also de-clawed) and a Westie dog who is also 13 years old and gets on Scottie's nerves because he gets up in his face. (Murphy is mostly blind and not so bright- but very sweet.)

Their offer is this:

Come over and watch our shiny new house and our various pets (4 cats and a dog) and we will pay to board your dog.

I'm not really comfortable with shuttling off my dog so that I watch their pets, but I don't think it's reasonable that they have to pay to board four animals when I'm willing to watch them- I'm just kind of tired of Scottie being treated like the ugly step child that you keep in a closet.

It times like this that it becomes clear to me that people view pets in completely different ways.

Abby- she refuses to scar Chloe by boarding her and says she never has and never will.

Me- while I don't necessarily view boarding as scaring I don't think in this case it's an ethical choice. I view pets as companions not belongings and feel they should be treated as such. You adopt a pet for life not till you get bored with it. (or in the case of Fred- it drives you bat crazy- Jason loves that wretch)

Didn't you guys go with them last year?

No quandry, you stay with Scottie and Jason takes care of the other critters. You two can be separated and both be doing good in different places. Besides, by now you are getting bored with each other and could use a break from each other, right? Dad

You know Dad, I thought of the same solution but Jason wasn't so keen on it when I suggested it.

Katie- oh, come on! you're not the ugly step child of the family... you're more like the hot half sister =) In any case remember Isabella loves you!

whatever. people don't even remember my name with any kind of consistency. i think even stella got our names confused on one of the last dvds.

i think stella might have called you a boy, katie. acutally, i have started calling you 'kia' without realizing that's not really your name. bah. i hate baby talk. i don't hate it. i just hate it when adults perpetuate it. and i'm doing it! anyway, why don't you euthenize scotty, then you and jason could be together AND house sit!

The same reason your mother didn't euthenize you when you got old. She enjoys your company and thinks your cute. (Or at least make cute babies)

Did you erase my comment, or am I really so absent-minded that I never posted it?

I guess you never posted it- even if I erase a comment it says something like "comment erased by administator".
